Willpower, Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery

Most people concerned about weight-related medical problems tried dieting. They try these “diets” a few times and finally decide on bariatric surgery. I have another idea.

Bariatric Surgery, this week’s topic in my current blog series challenging mainstream ideas about certain medical topics related to weight, diabetes, and cancer. Most people concerned about weight-related medical problems tried dieting. They succeed in losing weight only to see the weight come back on later. They try these “diets” a few times and finally decide on bariatric surgery.

They believe that they do not have the willpower to continue a program that resulted in weight gain. Nothing could be further from the truth, because it is not a lack of willpower that prevented you from maintaining the reduced weight, it is the fault of the program. Watch this short video to learn more:

The Reasons Bariatric Surgery causes weight loss:

  • You will be eating less voluntarily in the program
  • You will not be physical after surgery and will lose muscle mass,
  • You will be able to eat only one-third of the food you normally consume.
  • You will be advised not to eat complex carbohydrates soon after surgery.
  • You must watch your salt-intake because that will make you thirsty. You have less room for water post-surgery.

Consider these less invasive ideas before trying surgery or another “diet”:

  • Eat one-third of the food that you normally consume.
  • Avoid grain-based foods and salty foods.
  • Enjoy what you eat but more importantly eat what you enjoy.
  • When the degree of enjoyment goes down, you stop eating.

Do that for two months and you will know there’s nothing wrong with your willpower. Maybe you do not even need surgery?
