Red Meat Vs. White Meat and Your Cholesterol

For a long time, everybody believed red meat is bad compared to white meat. Now the first question is what is cholesterol used for in the body?

Happy Summer days. I hope you have been enjoying the warm, sunny weather and eating plenty of grilled vegetables and meats. While many Americans have chosen to stick with white meat in order to control their cholesterol levels, a new study suggests it may not matter.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published an article in June of 2019 stating that it makes no difference whether you eat red meat or white meat in terms of cholesterol.

For a long time, everybody believed red meat is bad compared to white meat. Now the first question is what is cholesterol used for in the body?

Cholesterol is nothing but an insulator for the cell wall and without cholesterol, you would lose water and you get dehydrated in warm weather. Without cholesterol, you lose heat and you can get frostbite in cold weather.

Now everybody has heard that there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. What does good cholesterol do? In effect nothing. It is called good cholesterol because it does not do any harm. You may not know that the body can use cholesterol only when it is in the form of LDL, the so-called bad cholesterol.

I invite you to watch this short video to learn more.

Takeaway Points From This Video

  • You should reduce your LDL level. When your body becomes inflamed, blood platelets get trapped in the LDL particles that produce a plaque and when that becomes enlarged, that can block the artery. That is how you get a heart attack or stroke.
  • Plants don’t make LDL but vegetarians who eat only plants do need cholesterol. The liver can convert the glucose from grains into saturated fatty acids and then shape it to form cholesterol molecules.
  • To reduce your LDL cholesterol in a natural way without medication, you have to reduce the number of grains that you consume to less than 30% of your daily energy intake.
  • You can also reduce your cholesterol production by reducing the intake of saturated fat in the form of butter.
